In
view of the economic reforms, globalization, and
Government inviting private capital in infrastructure
and SEZ projects, we at the MGLI need to refocus
ourselves in view of changing times.
The
following could be the focus areas for MGLI in
future:

1.
Promoting participatory development for the benefit of unorganised/informal sector.
This could involve NGO, CBO, and MBO.
2.
Economic and social security for unorganised / Informal Sectors.
3.
Strengthening of social dialogue.
4.
Safe work : Safety and health at work and the environment.
5.
Human rights: Progressive elimination of
child labour, bonded labour, mitigation of
the hardship faced by migrant workers, etc
6.
Sustainable development based upon Agenda
21 of Rio Conference of 1992 for the benefit
of working class.
7.
Gender equality : All issues where gender
equality is applicable in all the sectors
that we would like to consider upon.
8.
Investment in knowledge, skills and employability
: Boosting of employment through micro enterprises
for the benefit of working class. A Diploma
or Certificate course with hand holding can be started on the
lines of CED / EDI.
9.
Labour grid / Labour net : A databank of skilled / semiskilled workers for the benefit of Industries.
Institute must focus on the above issues to strengthen our
research, education and training, benefiting the
working class.

during the year 2006-2007.
