| Introduction |
Occupational health and hygiene are the areas of industrial activities considered to be of prime importance all over the world. With Occupational Safety and Health Act (USA), Health and Safety at Work Act (UK) and latest amendments in the Factories Act in our country, the laws regarding the industrial workforce are getting increasingly tough on a global basis. It is, thus, essential that medical aspects of health, safety and environment are explained fully to doctors in the industrial set-up. In order to keep pace with the national and international standards on health and hygiene within the industry, this special course is an essential pre-requisite all Medical Officers.
Fully co-ordinated from all the important organisations like National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH), Chief Inspectorate of Factories and Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute, this course will help the industry, the working people and the environment. |

| The Need |
Rules 68(U) of Gujarat Factories Act 1963 framed under section 41 C of the Factories Act 1948 makes it imperative that doctors in the employment of industries have to undergo DIH (or equivalent) or at least 3 months Certificate Course on Industrial Health. It is thus obligatory on the part of employers that those Factory Medical Officers who have not yet undergone this course, make it convenient to attend this course at the earliest. |
There are a number of hazardous industrial units in Gujarat where processes and operations invariably involve risk to both the workers and the enviroment. Therefore it is now becoming increasingly essential that sustained efforts are made to reduce accidents and make all necessary health care facilities available at the factory level. In order to equip medical professionals for the same, this course has been specially designed. |
